Japanese violinist Rika Masato won the 1st prize at the inaugural Dominique Peccatte International Violin Competition in Paris, receiving €5,000 (US $5,600) and a Kaspar Pankow bow. Second and third prizes went to Marie-Astrid Hulot and Haruka Nagao, respectively, with Kaspar Pankow also receiving €5,000 as winner of the bow making section.
Rebecca Gilliver (British cellist) is appointed Professor of Cello at the Guildhall School of Music in London, effective from September. Gilliver has served as Co-Principal Cellist with the London Symphony Orchestra since 2001 and has appeared as a soloist with several orchestras including the Halle Orchestra and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields.
Brian Chan created a fully functional 3D printed violin using resin printing. Rhett Price, a violinist involved in the project, composed and recorded a song with the instrument and praised its sound quality and design.

The article by Norman Lebrecht reports that Gloria Stroud, a longtime Dallas Symphony violinist, is selling her 1740 Guarnerius violin for $1 million through a Chicago dealer. Stroud, who began playing at Juilliard, served in the US forces and then played 42 years with the Dallas Symphony, is now 90 and retired.
