La viola Medicea, detta anche del Crocefisso, è stata ritrovata dai carabinieri del nucleo tutela culturale insieme ai colleghi di Milano, Lodi e Pavia dopo 26 anni. L instrumento fu costruito nel 1595 dai liutai cremonesi Antonio e Gerolamo Amati ed è di proprietà dell’assicurazione che aveva pagato il premio al maestro Luigi Alberto Bianchi.
Turtle Island Quartet violinist Evan Price lost his violin on April 8 after leaving it outside Billings, Montana’s airport, as reported by the Billings Gazette. The instrument, an 1879 Eugenio Praga violin, is valued at about $50,000. Price spent two days checking pawnshops and stores while police reviewed surveillance footage.
Mats Tinnsten and Peter Carlsson of Mid-Sweden University in Ostersund analyze Stradivarius violins using computer models to replicate their acoustic properties. Stradivari built more than 1,100 violins in Cremona, Italy, with about 600 surviving today. A Stradivarius violin recently sold at Christie's in New York for just over $2 million.
