Swedish researchers trying to recreate Stradivarius acoustics

A 235-year-old cello on loan to David Edmonds, a member of the Myrios Quartet, was stolen from his car at a car wash in Chorlton Road, Old Trafford. The instrument, labeled Carcassi, 1770, is valued around £10,000, though not a genuine Carcassi, and police are investigating.

The authenticity of the instrument is not confirmed and a conservator will verify it. The violin remains in a depot because the man did not have permission to export it. The owner said the instrument is old and bought by his father 15 years ago, and he planned to take it to England where his brother lives.
