The Monterey County Herald via AP reports a 205-year-old instrument crafted in 1798 by Jose Carbajal, a Salinan Indian, vanished from Mission San Antonio de Padua's museum. The theft, which replaced the violin with a cheap imitation, was only noticed when John Warren of the New World Baroque Orchestra arrived to borrow the instrument; detective Jim Miller notes no value has been placed on the missing item.
