A Japanese family won a nine-year battle to recover a Rocca violin valued at more than $140,000 from NYPD custody. Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Lewis Bart Stone ordered the Police Department to return the instrument, which had been in evidence since 1994, to Munehiro Okada. The violin was one of two stolen in 1994 from a dealer who was to sell it for Okada’s father, Sojiro Okada.
