Chaim Soutine’s Portrait d’une Jeune Fille, left, and a Paul Cezanne still life, Bouilloire et Fruits (Fruit and Jug), were among seven paintings stolen in May 1978 from Michael Bakwin in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Paul Cezanne’s Bouilloire et Fruits, valued at nearly $30 million, was later returned and sold by Sotheby’s in London for nearly $30 million in 1999. Robert M. Mardirosian, 74, a retired lawyer, was found guilty by a US District Court jury on August 18 of possessing, transporting and attempting to sell stolen paintings.
