World’s costliest painting goes on view in New York

Adele Bloch-Bauer I, Gustav Klimt’s portrait of a Viennese socialite, went on public display July 13 at New York’s Neue Galerie and remains through September 18. The painting, completed in 1907, has been hailed as one of the world’s most expensive works and has been linked to the Mona Lisa and Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d'Avignon in significance.

Serra to re-create missing sculpture for Reina Sofía

Richard Serra’s Equal Parallel/Guernica-Bengasi, which Madrid’s Reina Sofía museum misplaced, will be re-created by Serra as a twin for €78,000 ($99,238); the original cost the museum paid was about $220,000. The new sculpture will be shown next year at the Museum of Modern Art before joining the Reina Sofía’s permanent collection, per Dale Fuchs for the New York Times.
